Krump 克鲁普舞

Los Angeles' explosive answer to gang culture.

Origins & History

Tight Eyez and the streets

Krump was created around 2000–2001 by Ceasare ‘Tight Eyez’ Willis and Jo’Artis ‘Big Mijo’ Ratti in South Central LA. It channeled street aggression into a non-violent, spiritual form of expression — ‘Kingdom Radically Uplifted Mighty Praise’.

Rize and mainstream

David LaChapelle’s 2005 documentary RIZE brought krump to global attention, contrasting it with clowning (its direct parent style) and showing its raw emotional power.

Global battle scene

Krump battles and world championships (like EBS — Everything Begins with Style) now run in Europe, Asia and Latin America. France and South Korea host particularly strong scenes.

Move Breakdown

  • Chest Pop: Explosive chest expansion synced to the beat — the krump signature.
  • Arm Swing / Buck: Violent, controlled arm swings; a ‘buck’ is a hard-hitting combo.
  • Stomp: Heavy foot stomps that shake the floor, often into a freeze.
  • Kill-Off: A sudden collapse or drop signaling the end of a round.

Music Profile

Krump rides heavy hip-hop and bass tracks around 90–110 BPM, favoring tracks with space for hits — producers often cut the beat so pops land in silence.

Fashion & Visual Identity

Baggy streetwear: oversized tees, sagging pants, bandanas, face paint in battle settings. Practicality matters — the dance is violent on the body.
