Gabber Dance 硬核舞
The umbrella style of hardcore dancing worldwide.
Origins & History
Transatlantic split
While Dutch hakken stayed in the clubs, US hardcore punk kids developed ‘hardcore dancing’ at shows — windmills, two-steps and pile-ons. Both lineages now inform the global gabber dance umbrella.
Festival mosh crossover
At metal and hardcore festivals, gabber dance and moshpit etiquette merged, producing hybrid floor styles at events like Dominator and Defqon.1.
Move Breakdown
- Windmill: Arms swing in full circular arcs, clearing space around the dancer.
- Two-Step: A running shuffle across the pit, punching the air on the beat.
- Floor Punch: Dropping to punch the ground in rhythm, then springing back up.
- Pick-up Slide: Helping a fallen dancer up while continuing to move.
Music Profile
Anything violent enough: 200+ BPM terrorcore, breakdown-heavy metalcore, or industrial hardcore. The dance follows the kick drum, not the melody.
Fashion & Visual Identity
Band tees, camo or workwear pants, combat boots or skate shoes; in European gabber scenes, tracksuits still dominate.

Variants & Fusions
- Slam Dancing: Punk-era precursor, looser and drunker.
- Crowd-Kill Variants: Controversial aggressive style; often banned at shows.
